چکیده

Abstract The bottleneck for the production of biofuels from microalgae consists on costly harvesting processes and low lipid production, immobilization technology could play a part making more feasible. aim this study was to evaluate effect alginate growth productivity Chlorella sorokiniana , so far, main focus has been its use wastewater treatment nutrient removal effluents. cultured in both free immobilized forms under optimal autotrophic conditions. Microalgae were calcium beads generated by mixing algal cells with sodium solution, followed extrusion into CaCl 2 solution. results obtained showed that beads, enhanced achieved dry cell weight 1.4-fold higher than culture, light transmittance also increased 54.21 ± 2.48 mg l −1 d culture 82.22 8.48 culture. These demonstrate effectiveness promoting .

SHOOT REGENERATION FROM SAFFRON PROTOPLASTS IMMOBILIZED IN Ca-ALGINATE BEADS

Saffron (Crocus sativus L.) protoplasts were isolated from the cells of a suspension culture or calli with a solution of Cellulase, Pectinase and Hemicellulase and embedded in Ca-alginate beads. They were cultured with or without nurse cells in MS medium supplemented with 2,4-D and 6-benzylaminopurine at 25°C. After several changes of medium, cell-clusters appeared on the surface of the Ca-algi...

Biochemical modulation of growth, lipid quality and productivity in mixotrophic cultures of Chlorella sorokiniana

The genus Chlorella is a widely employed microalga for biodiesel, as it can be grown using photo/mixo/heterotrophic mode of cultivation. The present investigation was undertaken with the hypothesis that addition of different substrates (amino acids, carbon sources, vitamins) along with reducing agents may aid in diverting Acetyl CoA to malonyl CoA or fatty acid biosynthesis, under mixotrophic c...

Biosorption and biodegradation of tributyltin (TBT) by alginate immobilized Chlorella vulgaris beads in several treatment cycles

Biosorption and biodegradation by microorganisms to remove tributyltin (TBT), a toxic and persistent contaminant, have attracted more and more interests in recent years but information related to microalgae is still inadequate. The present study aims to investigate the removal and degradation of TBT at 10, 50 and 100 mg Sn l 1 contamination levels by alginate-immobilized Chlorella vulgaris bead...

Analysis of removal of cadmium by action of immobilized Chlorella sp. micro-algae in alginate beads

Cadmium (Cd) is a metal that can negatively interfere with the metabolic systems of living beings. The objective of this work was to evaluate the capacity for cadmium removal in aqueous solutions by immobilized Chlorella sp. in calcium alginate beads. Beads without Chlorella sp. were used as a control. All the treatments were established in triplicate for 80 min, at four concentrations of cadmi...
